Vileen S. Key, 93, of Mendota died Sept. 12, 2015, in
Stonecroft Village Retirement Community, Mendota.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Oct. 16 in St. John's
Lutheran Church, Mendota. Burial will be at Restland
Cemetery, Mendota.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at church
Oct. 16. Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota provided
arrangements.
Vileen was born in Lisbon, N. D., on Feb. 11, 1922, to
Gustav and Thora (Melby) Sunby. They moved to Joliet in
1924, where she graduated from Joliet Township High
School and Joliet Junior College.
She married Carl Key on Oct. 24, 1942, in Fort Lewis,
Wash., in a military wedding. She moved back to Joliet
where Carl joined her in 1945 following the end of World
War II.
They moved to Delavan in 1948 where they bought a
chicken hatchery and conducted that business for 22 years.
They then moved to Mendota in 1971. She was a member
of St. John's Lutheran Church.
Vileen worked for Marmion Insurance & Charlie Brown
Real Estate and then Mendota Skelgas until she retired.
She enjoyed volunteer work as a "Gray & Pink" Lady at
the hospital and as a water aerobics instructor at the Spa
for Seniors. Vi enjoyed spending time gardening. The Lord
blessed them with four sons.
She is survived by two sons, Roger (Susan) Key of Lake
Zurich and Stanley (Lisa) Key of Spokane, Wash.; 13
grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and many nieces
and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2009; and
two sons, Lt. Col. Carl Key Jr. and Rev. Robert Key.
Memorials may be directed to St. John's Memorial Fund,
Mendota Area Christian Food Pantry or a charity of the
donor's choice.
