Obituary

Virginia Ann (Grivetti ) Joerger received her call to her eternal rest February 24, 2026 at her home in Oglesby Illinois. Visitation will be held at Horner-Merritt Funeral Home Mendota, Sunday, March 8th from 4:00-6:00pm with rosary recited at 3:30 pm. Monday, March 9th, a one hour visitation will begin at 10:00 am preceding Mass of Christian burial St. Bede Abbey Church at 11:00am. Burial service will be immediately following in Ladd Cemetery. Virginia Ann arrived In Spring Valley, Illinois, April 8, 1930, the eldest child to Michael and Evelyn (Malcolm) Grivetti. Ed Joerger and Vi were joined in a blessed marriage in Holy Cross Church in Mendota, April 4, 1992. He preceded her in death November 23, 2000. She was a dedicated musician at Hall High School (Class of 1948) playing clarinet in the band, and many years playing the piano and the organ at masses at St. Benedict’s Church in Ladd and Holy Cross in Mendota. Virginia enjoyed sewing for herself and her three daughters, and later sewing for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Working history included: Gualandri’s Grocery Store, Campbell’s Cleaners, Assistant Director of M.A.S.S., and Customer Service Representative at Combined Communications. Virginia served as a past President of Mendota Women’s Club, Holy Cross Altar Society, a member of St. Joseph’s Altar Society. In 2019, she became a Prayer Associate with The Dominican Sisters of Springfield, attended and led TEC Retreats and Cursillo’s that filled her with spiritual joy. She also shared her time volunteering with the American Red Cross Blood Drive and as a Girl Scout leader. Belonged to Women of the Moose and Mendota Elks Club. Virginia participated in several Red Hat Lady Society groups in Illinois and AZ. and previously reigned as Queen Mum In Mesa. She attended the Swinging Fillies Red Hat Chapter in Peru, IL.

Her winters were spent over 25 years in her home in Mesa, AZ with husband Ed until he passed, but she continued every winter. Virginia enjoyed swimming, playing tennis, hiking and riding bicycles. Being an avid sports fan she followed three generations of family playing grade school, high school and college football, rugby, basketball, tennis, baseball, track and soccer. She attended two SBA home baseball games in 2025! Virginia is survived by her brothers Michael Grivetti, Ladd and Peter Grivetti, Richwoods, MO. Her children Linda (Steve) Dinges, Oglesby, Norine Maurer, LaSalle, Bill ( Manuela) Booker LaSalle, John (Skip) Booker, Sterling, and Son-in-law Roger Willoughby, Granville. Joerger boys: Mike (Linda), LaSalle, Dave (Peg), Ballwin,MO., Steve, Chicago, Jim (Kathy), Minooka. She was blessed with 22 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson and many devoted nieces and nephews and cousins.

Preceding in death were her parents, husband, ED, sister, Mary Lou McNally, sister in love, Janice Grivetti, daughter, Laura Willoughby, granddaughter, Danielle, and Micah, infant grandson. Memorials may be directed to St. Bede Academy Baseball, M.A.S.S. or St. Jude’s.
