Virginia Piller, 93, of Mendota died April 15, 2016 at the Mendota Lutheran Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 22 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Mendota with Rev. Janet Lepp officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, April 21 at the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota.

Virginia was born Feb. 17, 1923 in Earlville to Ray and Gladys (Ansteth) Rod. She married Frank Piller on Nov. 27, 1943 in Mendota.

Survivors include two sons, Charles (Lois) Piller of Ashton and Edward (Jeanette) Piller of Portland, Ore.; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Darlene (Harold) Meisel of Mendota, Mary Bradford of Oklahoma and Marjorie Beedle-Anderson of Streator.

She was preceded in death by her husband on April 3, 2006; one daughter, Connie Betz; one sister, Charlotte Coates; and a brother in infancy.

Virginia was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Mendota and a 1941 graduate of Mendota High School. She conducted a baby sitting service in her home for seven years. She was a nurse's aide for 14 years, of which 11 years were spent working at Sunrise Nursing Home in Mendota (now Heritage Health). She and her husband served as superintendents of the Floral Culture Exhibits at the Tri-County Fair in Mendota for 10 years. When she became a resident of the Mendota Lutheran Home, she continued to care for the plants and flowers in the nursing home.
