Virginia Alida (Bauer) Young, 93, of Spring Valley died March 19, 2017 at her residence. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran, "Church on the Hill", Princeton with Rev. Kim Lee-Brown officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday in the Merritt Home, Mendota.
Virginia was born March 23, 1926 in Clarion Twp. to Clement and Edith (Stuepfert) Bauer. She married Gene William Young from Spring Valley on May 2, 1951, at the Naval Station in Washington D.C..
While there she was employed as a secretary to the Naval Publications unit. After high school "Ginny" moved to Chicago and procured a position at the Palmer House-Hilton Hotel where she worked as a private executive secretary for 4 years. While Gene was serving in the Navy, he and Ginny started their family and after his tour of service they returned to the family farm near Spring Valley. Through her years of raising a family, she also found work at St. Margaret's Hospital and the E.U.C. in LaSalle. She was an accomplished speaker, musician and vocalist. As an excellent seamstress she took pride in dressing her family to the height of fashion. Ginny worked side by side with her husband on the family farm walking beans, hauling in grain, and doing field work. She was an avid camper for over 50 years. Ginny and her husband enjoyed traveling in their motor home, touring the country. Besides camping camping, mowing the lawn was Ginny's passion. she gave to numerous charities over the years with great generosity. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran "Church on the Hill' for many years, serving the church in various capacities. Ginny loved her Lord and never gave up on life.
She is survived by her three children; William (Debra) Young, James (Cindy) Young, and John (Diane) Young; 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded by her husband and one dauaghter, Teresa Penoyer.
Memorials may be directed to St. Judes Children Hospital, Redeemer Lutheran in Peru, and St. John's Evangelical "Church on the Hill".
