Wanda M. Kunz, 76, of Mendota, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2024, at AC Skylines Nursing Center in Peoria. She was born August 8, 1948, in Pekin, IL, the daughter of William E. Jr. and Lorraine A. (Vanderwater) Royse. She married Gary L. Kunz on July 31, 1971, in Pekin, IL.
Wanda graduated from Pekin High School in 1966 and Illinois State University in 1971 with a bachelor's of science in education. After her children were born, she stayed at home to raise them. She also worked several jobs, including as a teller at First State Bank Mendota and a medical transcriptionist for Dr. Schuler. During this same time period, Wanda and Gary started and co -owned Kunz Engineering. They worked side by side for many years until dementia prevented her from doing so. Wanda had a servant's heart and put everyone else first. Her family brought her much joy. She was an excellent wife, mother, and especially loved being a grandmother. She was an active member of the Mendota Bible Church, where she served in many roles including church secretary, Sunday school teacher, librarian and Bible study leader.
Wanda is survived by her husband, Gary Kunz, of Mendota; three children, Jennifer (Darren) Vandermyde of Eureka, IL, Matthew (Stephanie) Kunz of Mendota, and Julie (Zachary) Birky of Washington, IL; seven grandchildren, Joshua, Isaac, and Ethan Vandermyde, Abigail and Hannah Kunz, and Evan and Aaron Birky; two brothers, Larry Royse and Gary (Neta) Royse; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Wanda is preceded in death by three siblings, Arleen Royse, William E. Royse III, and Sharon Radosevich.
A funeral service will take place at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 23, 2024, at the Mendota Bible Church, 4131 N. State Highway 251, in Mendota with Pastor Brian Kelly officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will follow in Restland Cemetery.
