Obituary

Warren R. Hanson, 92, of Green Valley, Ariz., formerly of Mendota, died Nov. 13, 2009, in Green Valley. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. John's Lutheran Church, Mendota, with the Rev. Dale Peterson officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota. There will be no visitation. Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, handled the arrangements. Mr. Hanson was born June 9, 1917, in Chicago to Peter and Emma (Larson) Hanson. He married Mahrie Cecile Britt on March 5, 1948, in Chicago. He graduated from Calumet High School in Chicago. He joined the U.S. Navy as a pilot in 1941, serving in World War II. He worked for Wayside Press, retiring as vice president of sales in 1982. He served as an alderman on the Mendota City Council and was a member of Mendota Civic Center Board of Directors, Mendota Elks Lodge and Retired Navy Pilots Club. He was a Boy Scout leader and was a Sunday school teacher at St. John's Lutheran Church in Mendota, where he was a member. He and his wife moved to Green Valley, Ariz., in 2000. He was a member of Valley Presbyterian Church, Green Valley. He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Toni Hanson of Denver, Colo.; two sons, Peter (Martha) Hanson of Saugatuck, Mich., and Britt Hanson of Bisbee, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and two greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. Memorials may be directed to Mendota Civic Center. Reception to follow at Mendota Civic Center at 12:30p.m.
