Wesley R. Olson, 87, of Mendota died May 14, 2009, in Mendota Community Hospital. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. John's Lutheran Church, Mendota. The Rev. Dale Peterson will officiate. Burial will be at Leland Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday in St. John's Lutheran Church lounge. Merritt Funeral Home,Mendota, is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Olson was born Nov. 27, 1921, in rural Harding to Enoch and Hattie (Kittleson) Olson. He married Betty McVicar on Dec. 20, 1947, in Chicago. He graduated from Leland High School in 1939. He farmed in the Leland area and was a Pioneer seed corn salesman for more than 20 years. He moved to Mendota in 1990. He was a 50-year member of Leland Masonic Lodge, and a 50-year member of Moline Consistory where he attained the 33rd Degree. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, a former board member and past president of Leland Elevator Board and was a former member of Elks Lodge 1212 in Mendota. Survivors are one daughter, Vicki (Richard) Wujek of Mendota; one son, Kevin (Mary) Olson of Morris; two grandsons; and two sisters, Doris Skelley of Leland and Jean (Forester) DuSell of Geneva. He was preceded in death by his wife on Aug. 2, 2006; and one brother. Memorials may be directed to St. John's Lutheran Church, Bethany Lutheran Church in Leland or Mendota Lutheran Home.
