Willard F. Keen, 91, of Mendota died at 10:15 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008, in Mendota Lutheran Home. A funeral service will be at 5 p.m. Friday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, with the Rev. Dale Dykstra officiating. Interment will be at Restland Cemetery at a later date. Visitation is one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Mr. Keen was born Oct. 27, 1916, in Meriden Township to Joseph Willard and Dora (Garrison) Keen. He married Arlene Roux on March 14, 1943, in the Earlville Presbyterian Church. He graduated from Mendota High School in 1934. He farmed in the Meriden and Mendota areas his entire life. Upon retirement in 1981, he and Arlene moved to Mendota where he delivered Meals on Wheels for 20 years and acted as a Red Coat volunteer at Mendota Community Hospital. He was a life member of First Presbyterian Church in Mendota where he acted as a deacon for three terms. He is survived by his wife, Arlene of Mendota Lutheran Home; three sons, Joe (Judy) Keen of Morton, John (Gloria) Keen of Sugar Grove and Jim (Paula) Keen of St. Charles; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers. Memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church of Mendota or the donor's choice.
