William M. "Pops" McLaughlin, 77, of Mendota, formerly of Amboy, died Sept. 20, 2014 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 25 at the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. Burial will be at the Troy Grove Cemetery. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at the funeral home.
Pops was born Feb. 2, 1937 in Mendota to Marvin "Dutch" and Pearl Heidi McLaughlin. He married Judy Willis on July 26, 1958 in Princeton. She preceded him in death in 2007.
Survivors include one son, Daniel of LaMoille; one daughter, Cathy Sampo of Mesa, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren; and caregiver/niece Traci Schultz Piper.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 2007; one brother, Chuck; and three sisters, Donna, Ruth and Sandra.
Pops worked for the Mendota Police Department as a dispatcher and was a fire truck and ambulance driver. He was a part time police patrol officer for the Amboy Police Department before retiring and also was a self-employed truck driver. He was a member of the Mendota Moose Lodge.
