William Carl Payne, 80, of
Naples, Fla., and formerly of
Chicago and Mendota, died Nov. 9, 2006,
in Naples, Fla.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m.
Saturday in Merritt Funeral Home,
Mendota, with the Rev. Dr. Dale Dykstra
officiating. Interment will be at Restland
Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m.
until the time of services Saturday in the
funeral home.
Mr. Payne was born Oct. 2, 1926, in
Mendota to Roy and Bessie Payne. He
married Nancy Conkey Stockhus in 1970.
He graduated from Mendota High
School and served with the U.S. Army at
Ft. Douglas, Salt Lake City, Utah. After
leaving the Army, he graduated from
Bradley University and worked for The
Hartford Insurance Co. and the Sun-Times
Daily News. While living in Florida, he
was a volunteer with Hospice, Big
Brothers and Big Sisters and was a supporter
of the Philharmonic in Naples.
Survivors are two stepsons, Mark and
David Stockhus; four stepgrandchildren;
12 nieces and nephews; and his companion,
Henry Murphy.
He was preceded in death by his wife in
1993, six sisters, an infant brother and a
nephew.
