William L. Schmidt, 75, of Troy Grove died Nov. 20, 2007, in Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Mendota. A memorial service will be at noon Monday in Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, with the Rev. Paul Darveau officiating. Burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Compton, with military rites by Mendota VFW Post 4079. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service Monday in the funeral home. Mr. Schmidt was born Feb. 23, 1932, in Mendota to Homer and Edith (Martin) Schmidt. He worked at R.R Donnelley as a pressman for 45 years and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He is survived by a daughter, Sherry (Patrick) Dagg of East Peoria; three sons, James (Julie) Schmidt of Mendota, William (Luann) Schmidt of Manchester, Tenn., and Martin Schmidt of Seattle, Wash.; 13 grandchildren; four greatgrandchildren; the mother of his children,Winifred Jeanne of El Paso; two sisters, Norma (Robert) Ecklund of Las Cruces, N.M., and Ruth Delhotal of Princeton; and two brothers, Harold Schlesinger of Mendota and Charles (Sharon) Howarth of Pontiac. He was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers. Memorials may be directed to the family.
