Obituary

William Mortimer Setchell,
92, of Mendota died peacefully
in his home at 3:30 a.m. Aug.
14, 2013.
Services will be at 11
a.m. Saturday in First United
Methodist Church, Mendota, with
the Rev. Michael Morrell officiating.
Burial will be at Restland
Cemetery ,
Mendota.
Visitation
is two hours
prior to service
Saturday
in the church.

Mr. Setchell was born Jan.
17, 1921, in Harris Hospital,
Mendota to Clifford and Ethel
(Stone) Setchell. He married Lois
Irene Sibigtroth on July 2, 1944,
in Mendota.
He was a lifelong member of
First United Methodist Church
in Mendota where he served in
many positions including Sunday
school teacher, church treasurer
and choir. He was a more than
50-year member of Mendota
Rotary Club and received Paul
Harris Fellowship recognition.
He also was a lifelong member
of Masonic Lodge.
He was a farmer who loved
working with the land. For many
years he sold insurance with
Jackson National Life; was a
member of La Salle County Farm
Bureau; served as a docent for
Mendota Museum and Historical
Society and La Salle County
Historical Society; was a Red
Coat at Mendota Community
Hospital and had various involvements
in 4-H over many years.
His passions were music, gardening
and traveling with his wife.
He is survived by two
sons, William Richard "Dick"
(Patti) Setchell of Mendota
and Randall (Marzita) Setchell
of La Salle; one daughter,
Marilee Setchell (Leo) Smith of
LeClaire, Iowa; five grandchildren;
five stepgrandchildren; 11
great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-
grandchildren; two stepgreat-
great-grandchildren; two
sisters, Ruth (Setchell) Heagy
of Redmond, Ore., and Myrtle
(Setchell) Hitchins of Peru;
and one brother, Floyd (Elaine)
Setchell of Mendota.
He was preceded in death
by his wife of 66 years, Lois
(Sibigtroth) Setchell on June
15, 2010; and a daughter, Susan
Elizabeth Setchell in 2000.
In lieu of flowers, the family
requests memorials be directed
to Paul Fellows Scholarship Fund
of Rotary International or the
donor's choice.
